New Street Browser Based Game Coming to Toronto
Internet browsing is probably the main reason why people, nowadays, buy a computer. But you can do pretty much everything online with all those cloud services, much more than just web browsing. Even further you can play games like Angry Birds directly into your web browser or others like this one will talk bellow. After all, Google’s idea with Chrome OS – an entire operating system reduced to a web browser, is not really bad, is it?
We now expect to do our term paper research, reconnect with friends, order pizza and watch a movie at the same time without a glitch. This is what most of us want: We want the web to look good and we want it fast, no wonder developers are always on the look for the next big thing that will improve the web experience.
Microsoft’s bet is Internet Explorer 9, their latest browser, its main feature is being able to tap directly into your computer’s graphic card via the Windows 7 operation system, the objective is a faster render time and better graphics. Next week, the company is bringing a new browser-based game to Toronto to let Canadians put IE9 to the test.

June10 and 11, in the parking lot cornering St-John’s and Richmond West, Microsoft will be holding its Battle for Beauty event. Using a giant interactive screen, people on the street will get the chance to team up with online players, against online opponents.
If you know how to pitch a ball and want to join the game downtown , you get to peak at the technology behind the interactive screen, just grab a soft ball, choose your target and go crazy. The best of all is that on the street, you get to play against everybody at home.
What makes the game interesting, aside the online/offline interaction is its visuals entirely made in HTML5 and JavaScript. For those who can’t make it downtown, you can of course, give it a try at www.battleforbeauty.ca the night of the event. If you play online you get the opportunity to use different browsers according to which character you pick, that will allow you to draw your own conclusions about performance.
The game is easy to play, eat your opponent, don’t get eaten and flee the balls thrown at you by everyone on the street. The game begins at 9PM and is expected to last until midnight both Friday and Saturday. If you check it out, let us know what you think.
