Bandwidth utilization is a common issue in computers: we’d all love fast connections, so that we don’t have to worry about how many things we are downloading simultaneously in order to keep our line fast. But sometimes, when fast lines are not our case, we might want to limit the amount of data that our computer receives and sends.

Firefox Throttle is a free extension that lets you monitor and limit your bandwidth usage in Firefox.

It integrates itself into Firefox through a simple interface in the bottom right of the window, so that you can see at a glance how many KB/s you are currently downloading and uploading.

The main features are:

• Limit download and upload rates for all open Firefox windows/tabs and downloads

  




• Bursting mode (allow short rate “bursting” after inactivity)




• Preset and custom limits




• Exclude lists for IP addresses and domains that should not be throttled




• Automatically excluded LAN IPs




• Traffic stats (for current session and historic since last reset)

  




• Status panel with current bandwidth utilization indicators (or traffic counters)




• Quick throttling on/off toggle on status panel

This add-on is completely free to download and use. Unluckily, it works on Windows only.
