A few days ago I read a very good article on LifeHacker.com and I thought that it would have been useful for you too.

I just upgraded to version 3.0b of Firefox but many of my favorite extensions are disabled, with no way of getting them to work.

Editors at LifeHacker have found a great trick in order to set Firefox to ignore compatibility, and let it run any extension even if designed for other versions.

So here is explained how to run Firefox 2.0 add-ons in version 3.0b:

Only do this if you’re willing to deal with possible bleeding edge extension bugs and security risks!

Type about:config into Firefox’s address bar and click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button.
Right-click anywhere. Choose New>Boolean. Make the name of your new config value extensions.checkCompatibility and set it to false.
Make another new boolean pair called extensions.checkUpdateSecurity and set the value to false.
Restart Firefox.

Now any extension that isn’t yet officially Firefox 3 Beta compatible and doesn’t have secure updates (like Better Gmail and friends) will be enabled.

Final warning: These changes may lead to unexpected wacky behavior. Proceed at your own risk!

How To Assign Keywords To Bookmarks In Firefox

Are you someone who works a lot with tabs and needs to open millions of sites rapidly, without even losing a second typing a URL into the address bar?

With this little trick, I am going to show how to assign a keyword shortcut to your Firefox bookmarks, so that you will have to type just one word instead of a long text and slashes.

Here’s what to do:

Click on Bookmarks, choose the site you want to add a keyword to, right click on it and select properties.

Think of a word that you will easily remember for that site and type it in the Keyword box and click OK.

From now on, everytime you want to open that particular site, you will just have to type its corresponding keyword into the address bar, click Enter, and there you go: the keyword will be replaced by the site’s URL, and you will automatically be redirected to it.

When you are working with your browser and you are in a hurry or, just like me, don’t like doing things slow, shortcuts are way better than the mouse.

Today I decided to write, or at least to begin writing, a growing keyboard shortcuts list for Firefox.

Control Shortcuts

Ctrl+N Open a new browser window
Ctrl+T Open a new tab
Ctrl+W Close the current window or tab
Ctrl+Shift+T Re-open the last closed tab
Ctrl+Tab/Ctrl+PgDwn Switch to the next tab
Ctrl+Shift+Tab/Ctrl+PgUp Switch to the previous tab
Ctrl+[0-9] Switch to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. tab
Ctrl+F Open the text research box on the bottom
Ctrl+G Find the next occurrence of a search phrase during a research
Ctrl+Shift+G Find the previous occurrence of a search phrase during a research
Ctrl+K Move cursor to the Web Search widget (top right of screen)
Ctrl+Enter Add “http://www.” and “.com” around an address
Ctrl++(Plus sign) Increase the page font size
Ctrl+-(Minus sign) Decrease the page font size
Ctrl+U Display the source code of the current webpage in a new tab or window
